Representative Andrew Byron Reflects on the Start of the 2025 Legislative Session

Cheyenne, WY — Representative Andrew Byron (HD-22) has shared his thoughts on the beginning of the 2025 legislative session, expressing optimism for the work ahead and gratitude for the opportunity to serve his second term.

“It has been good to get to work,” said Representative Byron. “It is an honor to be re-elected to my second term. I hope we will be able to look back after March 6th and feel great about the work we did for Wyoming.”

While commenting on the session, Representative Byron emphasized his commitment to addressing the priorities of his constituents. “The Freedom Caucus’ five-and-dime plan has limited merit coming out of the 2024 session. It is not what my constituents have asked me to work on,” he stated. “The people of HD-22 want the government to stay out of their personal lives, quality healthcare, access to rivers for fishing and mountains for hunting, and roads clear of snow and safe for travel.”

Representative Byron also commented on the opening ceremony of the session, noting, “It certainly was an interesting opening ceremony. It seemed more like a choreographed production than getting the work of the Wyoming House started.”

Representative Byron expressed his gratitude for being appointed Chairman of the Travel, Recreation, Wildlife, and Cultural Resources Committee by Speaker Neiman. “I appreciate Speaker Neiman selecting me for this role. We will do great work in this committee for Lincoln and Teton counties, as well as for all of Wyoming,” he said.

As Chairman, Representative Byron led the Travel, Recreation, Wildlife, and Cultural Resources Committee’s debate on House Bill 45, a bill co-sponsored by Byron, which removes otters from the list of protected animals.

“I appreciated hearing from some of the world’s leading experts on otters and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s efforts to clarify misinformation about the bill,” said Representative Byron. “This legislation does not create an otter hunting season, but ensures the Game and Fish Department has the authority to effectively manage Wyoming’s wildlife.”

The committee passed HB-45 out of committee after 75 minutes of discussion and expert testimony. It will now be referred back to the House for discussion and its next vote.

This legislative session, Representative Byron is also sponsoring the following bills:

HB0098 - Property tax exemption for long-term homeowners-extension.

HB0136 - Volunteer first responder health insurance-revisions.

HB0204 - Nonresident fishing license fee increase.

Representative Byron remains committed to representing the interests of his constituents and looks forward to productive outcomes during the 2025 legislative session.
